D-Day Invasion: When Weather Changed History
Though the outcome of World War II was still very much in doubt in May of 1943, the Allied Expeditionary Force began drawing up plans for a full-scale invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. But when heavy rains and gale-forced winds unexpectedly pummelled the coast of France on the proposed "D-Day" target date of June 5, 1944, the man in charge of the invasion, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, was forced to make the most difficult decision of his life.
